From Dusk To Dawn

From Dusk To Dawn

This post results from an overflowing of a subject I shared at church. It has now bubbled over into my blog. I have decided to go with the flow and will be sharing some thoughts on darkness and light. Don’t be surprised If I make multiple posts on this.

I pray you follow along with me and get what you need.

Whether it’s a glimpse of light,

A dazzling light,

Or just a flicker of light.

And if you already have all the light you need, share a comment to this post, and keep the light shining.

I don’t think we can ever exhaust the subject of darkness and light.

Darkness can be so pervasive. Light so Luminous!

Darkness can cast you down to the depth of despair.

While light will take you to the Glories of Heaven.

Darkness can bring forth chaos and confusion. While Light brings order and stability.

One would ask, “why not just focus on the light?”

To that, I respond, “You cannot talk about light without also addressing darkness.

To appreciate the light, we must first encounter darkness.

Darkness has descended, because to be honest, when looking through the lens of the last eighteen months, we have been facing some stressful times. And while we have seen trying times before, I cannot remember dealing with so many difficulties on such a vast scale.

Not only is the world a dark place, but the lights have gone out in the hearts of some people, and they have become cold in the process.

When you consider everything, it can be overwhelming. We need all the hope and encouragement we can get; to warm our hearts and lift our spirits.

And though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will not lose hope because we know the Light of the World is with us.

It Began With Darkness

In the beginning, the world was empty and in utter darkness. God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. From total darkness, light BURST forth.

After God separated the darkness from the light which signifies night and day, the bible states, “There was an evening, and there was a morning; the first day.” Genesis 1:5

The bible list evening first, then morning. I have often wondered why evening came before morning; I’ve concluded, you cannot recognize light until you have first known darkness.

It is at the darkest times the glorious light of God is revealed.

Nobody likes to be in darkness. But to have a true appreciation of light, we must first experience the dark.

It is in the dark that God’s most glorious light is revealed.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.
A light has dawned on those living in a land of darkness.” Isaiah 9:2

Great, and glorious things can take place in the darkest of night.

It was a dark night when the Shepherds were watching their flocks that an angel appeared to them proclaiming the birth of Jesus. Luke 2:8-14

I don’t know about you, but to me, working nights gives off a totally different vibe than working days. Working nights can be long, lonely, and tedious.

Not only are the shepherds working night, but they are in the cold open fields watching sheep.

They didn’t doze off,

They didn’t wander away from their post.

They were wide awake and watching.

The angel’s appearance created such brilliance, the shepherds were able to witness the news that would light up the fields and light up their hearts.

It’s easy to get tired and go off to sleep when darkness surrounds us. Christmas Season is a time of joy, gladness, and light. Yet, though the Christmas decorations are glowing brightly around us, some hearts are filled with darkness.

Some are singing “I’m Dreaming Of A White Christmas.”

Others are singing “Blue Blue Christmas.”

And I understand; while writing this blog, I received messages from several friends: each feeling the darkness closing in and trying not to succumb to the effects of the night.

However, God will come to us wherever we are, even if we doze off in the process of waiting.

No matter what this Christmas looks like for you,

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord shines over you. Isaiah 60:1

For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord, my God, lightens my darkness. Psalm 18:28

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness DID NOT overcome it. John 1:5

There will be evening, and there will be morning.

If it’s the night for you, know that morning is coming!

It started in darkness –but it ends with LIGHT!

Merry Christmas
